Holy Potatoes! A Weapon Shop?! (HPAWS) is a management simulation game that features an aspiring young spud and his pet potato dog in a blacksmith shop. Familiar pop-culture icons and characters appear throughout the game, each with their own story and request for wacky weapons only you can create.

Job Title: Level Integrator Intern

Responsibilities included:

  • Collaborating with artists, game designers, and writers

  • Integrating text, visual, and audio assets

  • Co-writing of 'Choice of Fate' scenarios, choices, and results

  • Daily game testing and report of state of game

  • Testing of game balance

Overview

Working on HPAWS, I became more familiar with how simulator style games handled their text, visual, and audio assets.

​

Selecting the most suitable character portrait and music cues allowed me to be creative with tone and portrayal of characters, which was crucial to the comical nature of the game.

Choice of Fate is a random event that pops up a situation with 2 possible answers, one leading to success, and the other, failure. Depending on the results, various buffs or debuffs may be applied to the player's smiths.

​

The scenarios in Choice of Fate frequently tap on popular pop-culture references and puns, serving as a regular dose of comedy in the game.
